In June, 2008, the calendar will reflect the passage of fifty years (so far) in the practice of law by John T. Hume III — "Jack" to all who know him. Fifty years since a handshake and the simple transfer of a law degree scroll sent into society a third-generation lawyer who wanted to make a difference. And indeed, Jack has had an extraordinary impact on all who have been privileged to work with or around him. Committed to one law firm for his entire career (a rarity in today’s mobile employment world), Jack has always set the standard for excellence, both professionally and personally.
To his clients, Jack is a trusted confidant and protector; providing guidance and counseling when legal issues arise in their business or personal lives. To his colleagues in the legal profession, Jack epitomizes the concept of an ideal lawyer: a man whose word is his bond and whose integrity is unquestioned. He has been acknowledged by his peers in numerous publications and surveys as one of the top lawyers in his field, including his election as the first President of the Defense Trial Counsel Of Indiana and selection as an Indiana Superlawyer for the past several years. And to the Judges and Magistrates throughout the State of Indiana, both at the state and federal court levels, Jack is recognized and respected for his intellect, courtesy, insight and practicality in achieving what the law is intended to accomplish — the efficient and competent administration of justice and fairness.
To his law firm partners, associates and staff, Jack is the model by which success is measured. He is an invaluable mentor to young lawyers seeking to learn the proper way to practice law. He is both friend and employer to the law firm’s dedicated and loyal staff. To his partners, Jack is the embodiment of what a true partner should be: friend, confidant, colleague, mentor and guide.
Beyond all of his professional success, Jack can be most admired for his commitment to God, family and friends. His exceptional skills in the practice of law do not come at the expense of his personal loyalty and obligations to those he loves, but instead reflect the same dedication to each.
At this time, Jack, we would like to publicly praise and sincerely thank you for setting the example for all of us, both personally and professionally, for the past fifty years. Your partners, associates, staff, colleagues and clients have been, and continue to be, truly blessed by the opportunity to have worked with you. We look forward to as many more years as you may wish to continue to practice, and we intend to carry on your inspiration for generations to come. We are better people as a result of our association with you.
